Thanks for stopping by! Here's a little about me: I have been finding joy in art since I've been old enough to hold a crayon, and from there I continued to explore the arts through dancing, sewing, writing, drawing, photography and painting.
Another passion grew alongside my love of art: Archaeology. And so, I attended the University of British Columbia, and fulfilled my childhood dream of becoming an archaeologist. I feel fortunate to have trekked through some of B.C.'s beautiful back country and worked with many First Nations communities.
In 1999, I landed in Nepal and spent one month trekking through the Himalayas. It was a life changing journey! During my travels through Nepal and later Thailand, I reconnected with myself and my creativity.
But there's no place like home. I have planted roots on one of the Gulf Islands with my husband, two children, and dog. I've traded in my archaeological tool kit for brushes and paint.
My creative process is ever-evolving but it is driven solely by spontaneity and intuition. I rarely plan paintings (with the exception of my mandalas). I typically begin with a blank canvas and let my intuition and impulses guide me. It is a letting-go process. As such, the subject matter is often very personal and undeniably spiritual. It has taken me many years to feel comfortable sharing my art because of its cathartic nature. Besides this, I'm not currently concerned with painting "pretty" things, but rather painting my inner truths and letting my imagination play!
The common thread that runs through most of what I'm drawn to is my great reverence (and concern) for our Earth and my soul-connection to it.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope you enjoy your time here.
Peace and Light,
Joanne
